Where it all Began
Hi! My name is JanaLee Pickett! Let me tell you a little about me and my money story.
My marriage and first real experience managing money began in this tiny 1940s farmhand bunkhouse. The home had no foundation and partial dirt floors, which meant that we had more bugs in our house than dollars in the bank. The summer was hot, the winter (and showers) were very cold, and our money management skills were nonexistent in this tiny home. We knew enough not to go into credit card debt, but not enough to be sure our spending was in line with our priorities or even what our priorities were.
It was many years and many arguments about money before we found HOPE. We were able to build good money habits; gain clarity around the opportunities we wanted to take advantage of; prepare for future spending and needs; and truly fall in love with how we spend our money - elevating our plan as we went. Fast forward 24 years, and we are completely debt free, have money saved for the future, investments we are excited about, and more dreams waiting in the wings. Bonus: no more arguments about money. We aren't perfect and we do need to adjust and change the plan as life and priorities change, but the blame and shame is gone!
Along the way I fell in love with budgeting and helping others create their ideal spending plans. So I decided to make it official and in 2018 I became a Ramsey Solutions Master Financial Coach, and more recently, I became a Certified YNAB Coach in 2022. I'm currently working on becoming an Accredited Financial Counselor - hoping to achieve that goal by the end of 2025.
