Covering your Four Walls is your first budgeting priority. These are the things that will keep your family safe! If these four walls are covered, you will have less stress and anxiety in your life. You’ll be more able to focus on the things that really matter.
The fourth (and last) wall is clothing. Now, don't get your hopes up. I'm not advocating going out and buying a whole new designer wardrobe complete with a new pair of shoes for every day of the month. However, clothes are pretty important - unless you want to get some funny looks out in public. If you have kids, you know how fast they go through clothes. Sometimes the jobs we have require us to wear certain attire. Sometimes we lose or gain weight and need to get some new clothes that fit us properly. The reasons for needing to buy clothing go on and on. Since this is true, it is important to keep some money on hand for all those situations. You don't want to have to use a credit card, or use money that's meant for something else when your son puts on his school uniform pants and realizes he grew over night (this may or may not have happened to me three times last school year!). When you do need to buy new clothing, think thriftily. There are plenty of thrift/second-hand and discount stores out there and gems can often be found. Just be sure to only spend what you need when you need to.
